Dichroic glass is most often associated sparkling jewelry. But most artists are content to just add a little dichro and call it good. In this class you will learn how to take it the next level and get away from the ho-hum, ordinary jewelry that you see everyday. You will have a chance to experiment with several new techniques, improve on a few basic techniques, and maybe even invent a new one or two. Projects include manipulating, layering patterns, combining fused glass elements, bending, slumping, hanging and more as you learn how use dicro in extraordinarily dazzling ways you never imagined. Come to this class prepared to open your mind to new ways of looking at dichroic glass.

Dichroic glass is truly a fascinating and extremely versatile material. Students will gain a thorough understanding of dichroic glass and how to create the magical effects that only dichroic glass can produce. Understanding dichroic colors (both unfired and fired) and how to use these colors to their best advantage is what this class is all about.
Projects will include exploring textures in the dichroic surface and layering multiple dichroic colors. We will leave time for questions and problem solving, so bring pieces you have questions about if you wish.

We welcome Shirley back for her 27th Hot Glass Horizons conference. (That’s right; she hasn’t missed a single one) Shirley is an outstanding glass artist and highly sought after instructor from Chicago, IL. She has worked with stained glass for more than 30 years and started fusing in the early 1980's. Dichroic glass captured Shirley's interest at first sight and is the focus material in her creations. She is a pioneer in the use of dichroic glass for fusing and works closely with leading manufacturers of vapor deposition products. Because she continues to develop new ways to use dichroic glass, it is common for the same students to take her classes year after year. Shirley is a unique and highly rated instructor who genuinely enjoys sharing her glass knowledge, experience and techniques with her students.
