Friday, Oct. 3rd & Saturday, Oct. 4th

Fasten your seat belts and get ready for a wild ride. In this intensive two day class you will make a beautiful thick bowl while learning a multitude of advanced kiln working techniques such as multiple layer effects, minimizing air bubbles, gold and silver foils/ inclusions, designing with strips of glass on edge, incorporating pattern bars, use of stringers, mica, powders and more. Students will be encouraged to experiment and apply these new approaches to their own style. Once your bowl is slumped, you will have the opportunity to give it a professional finish using various cold working grinders and polishing equipment. Patty will also provide heating and cooling schedules for working thick. The emphasis will be on applying new techniques to explore new individual design possibilities. Some previous fusing experience is recommended.

Patty's Artwork

Patty Gray

As an art student in college working primarily in clay Patty was introduced to glass blowing in 1973. She and her husband built their first glass blowing studio in 1975 and Patty started fusing early 80’s. Together they have produced architectural fused/cast glasswork for installations in major hotels, public buildings and private residences as well as a body of personal work.
Patty teaches classes throughout the country for both adults and children (artist in residence program). Her favorite project while working with the children was a glass mural measuring 42”x 90” that is permanently installed in the Brier Public Library. You can find her work in numerous private and public collections and has been shown in galleries and exhibitions. Patty says, “My personal objectives are to never stop learning, to continue to experiment with glass and to explore its possibilities without limiting myself to traditional methods.” It is a treat to have Patty Gray teaching for HGH.
