This class will give you a comprehensive overview on various lighting techniques and styles. Students will learn about color theory, light transmission and light reflection. You will also learn about texture, combing, and firing schedules for both fusing and slumping of a variety of types of sconces. We will explore different types of lighting options including neon, flatlight, fluorescent, and incandescent. Various mounting options such as hang your glass, stand off systems, and drilling holes for traditional mounting will be discussed and demonstrated. Coldworking and etching will be discussed in detail as a method to enhance the artistic appearance of your light sconce. A variety of inclusion materials will be discussed and and available for students to use in their glass art piece. Students will leave the class with a fused piece they can use as is or incorporate into another light sconce.
Students will need to bring a glass cutter, plier, safety glasses, notebook, and pen.
