Phil Teefy

Phil will be teaching:

24W – “Marketing Art Glass” ½-Day PM class
       Wednesday, May 2 - 1PM - 4PM - Lecture

In 1981, Phil Teefy sat in on a lecture by Dale Chihuly, who said, "Even though my pieces are currently selling for only $800, one day my work will sell for over a million dollars!" Most of those in the audience laughed at the absurdity of this statement, but Phil took notes. These days, Dale is working on million dollar commissions and Phil is a highly successful glass artist with worldwide recognition. This class focuses on the 12-step program that Dale Chihuly outlined back in 1981 on how to successfully market art glass. Based on real-world experiences of what works and what doesn't, you'll get an insider's perspective on achieving profitability in the world of glass. You won't want to miss this very powerful class.

25TFS – “Dimensional Kiln Forming II” 3-Day class
Thursday, May 3, Friday, May 4 & Saturday, May 5

Well, Phil has come up with a whole set of advanced kiln forming techniques for this new 3-day class. The emphasis of this survey class is: studying new and diverse molds materials, specifics on how to get the best results from each and understanding the great variety of results that are unique to each specific material.

Project 1 – Using the Higuchi mold mix, students will make and cast in glass an actual leaf using this incredible high detail mold mix. This is a two part mold to create an impression on both sides of your glass.

Project 2 – Create “Zoo-ettes” - free standing glass creatures that are frit cast on 1/2 board with 1/8 fiber paper forms and bent over a wet felt slumping mold.

Project 3 – You will learn how to make a two part mold using RTV rubber. This is a great production process because the RTV molds can be cast over and over again.

After making a Sculpey clay master, you will create a flexible RTV mold for casting the lost wax form. Next, you will progress through the complete sequence needed to create the finished glass sculptures including; steaming out the wax, applying splash coats, making investments and charting the firing schedules.

Project 4 – Make a 3-D tile using Cast-o-Lot in combination with tree branches, leaver, frogs and lizards – oh my.

With the execution of these four projects, you will learn to use different molds, investment materials, clays and rubbers. Complete firing and annealing schedules will be discussed along with informative and inspiring slide shows. We want to emphasize this is an intense advanced class that will keep you working for the full three days.
Lab Fee $100
