Hot Glass Horizons - Corning 2007

Diann Schwerdtfeger

Diann will be teaching:

34F – “Double Shelf Fusing” - Friday, May 4
35S – “Double Shelf Fusing” - Saturday, May 5

Have you ever noticed how thin some fused glass can be and wondered how the artist was able to fully fuse elements together and have the finished piece less than ¼” thick? Well, one way to get 1/8”thick fused art is to fire the glass with a shelf on top as well as underneath. This is a great technique to use when you need light weight glass for jewelry, small bowls or even gallery art. This class will teach you the ins and outs of double shelf fusing using millefiori, stingers, twists and other Effetre (formerly known as Moretti), murrinis, rods and sheet glass. The class will fuse and slump a small bowl and make some jewelry pieces as you learn about firing schedules for a variety of special effects. Don’t be surprised if you are wearing some of your art that same evening because this class also provides finishing techniques and findings to complete your jewelry creations. This is a delightful and information packed class you are sure to enjoy.
Lab Fee - $25

Tools to bring: notebook and pen, safety glasses, glass cutter, running pliers, breakers and a mosaic cutter if you have one.
